Board of Bar Examiners Seeks Comment on Rule Amendments

The Oregon State Bar Board of Bar Examiners (BBX) invites comment on amendments to two rule sets (links to proposed changes): the Rules for Admission (RLs) and the rules for the Supervised Practice Portfolio Examination (SPPE). Please comment by August 19, 2025 at feedback@osbar.org.
ABA and Krill Strategies Launch New Lawyer Mental Health Study
The American Bar Association, through its Commission on Lawyer Assistance Programs (COLAP), and Krill Strategies have entered into a cooperation agreement to collaborate on a new, nationwide research project aimed at improving mental health and well-being in the legal profession. A random sample of OSB licensees will receive invitations to participate in the study. Click here for more information.
The OSB Seeks Comment on Amendment to Several Rule Sets
The Oregon State Bar seeks public comment on proposed amendments to several sets of rules relating to its regulatory work. Amendments are proposed to the: Rules of Licensure, Rules of Procedure, and Rules of Professional Conduct. The amendments address: 1) changes to the Oregon State Bar Act in the 2025 legislature; 2) attorney obligations in working with non-refundable fees; and 3) attorney obligations when working with licensed paralegals in Oregon. Volunteer with the Oregon State Bar
The Board of Governors is now accepting applications for volunteers interested in serving on several boards, committees, and councils. A description of each opportunity accompanies the application on the links below. Non-lawyer volunteers are asked to submit their interest form by July 15 and OSB members should apply by September 22.

Court Approves Amendments to the Rules of Licensure

The Oregon Supreme Court has approved amendments to the Rules of Licensure, addressing: 1) requirements of the New Lawyer Mentoring Program, and 2) MCLE credits for serving as a bar examiner. Both a clean copy of the new RLs, and a redline of the amendments are available. The new rules will be effective May 1, 2025.
Email Phishing Scam
A new email phishing scam is targeting Oregon lawyers and licensed paralegals. The email claims to come from a member of the Oregon State Bar staff, but does not originate from the OSB's domain name. We recommend that you delete the email, and report it to your IT team. The scam alerts page has info on this and other scams.
